About

I'm an undergraduate philosophy student. I organize for social change (and to make puns). I've been a student and teacher with the Tampa Free Skool and a member of Occupy Tampa. I'm currently a member of Sarasota Food Not Bombs, Tampa Bay IWW, and Tampa Solidarity Network. I play music with the band Kill All Humans!

This is a small attempt to respond to a variety of political, social, cultural, and intellectual phenomena happening today. My local focus is on Florida (especially Tampa and Sarasota), with a broader focus on the United States. I'm especially concerned with the American political left, Occupy Wall Street, journalism, feminism, anarchism, radical environmentalism, and the politics of technology. Expect some philosophy, theoretical analysis, amateur journalism, and maybe a bit of poetry.

The title of this site is a reference to "jiyū", the Japanese Zen word for a conception of freedom that I think is a very compelling alternative to ideas of freedom (non-interference, non-frustration of interests, non-domination, etc.) espoused in the Western liberal traditions. I can't exactly say what freedom is, but I'm trying to understand it through praxis.
